I have made the mistake too many times of either setting unrealistic goals or ones that I really wasn't to thrilled about but that sounded good at the time. I also have goals that I have set and can't physically complete for some reason. I've always let my perfectionism condemn me in the past, and this is the first year I am refusing to do that. I am giving myself permission to be more flexible with my goals.. I just don't want to let feelings of failure defeat my anymore. I am not talking about making excuses for not reaching goals; rather, I am acknowledging that I can't always predict what I can and can't accomplish as well as the fact that I am sometimes wrong in a direction I choose.

Retaining your enthusiasm is something I've been thinking about lately as well. A lot of it has to do with really digging dip into my motivations. It's something I have to spin around in my mind repeatedly to keep up my enthusiasm. And like you mentioned, allowing yourself to switch up your goals is helpful too. That's a big one for me, because I'm really good at setting incredibly lofty goals and then feeling like a failure when I can't live up to them.
