“I am thankful for…”

Wednesday’s post, Cultivating Thankfulness, provided some suggestions for encouraging a thankful attitude within your family.  Starting November 1st, my family and I kept a thankfulness journal with each of us listing something we are thankful for every day up until Thanksgiving Day. And, as promised, below are some of my favorite entries.

I am thankful to be working for a company that puts God & family first. – Daddy

I am thankful for an awesome youth group and a good time at youth convention. – Jonathan

I am thankful for my parents who love me. – Richard

I am thankful for my two sons who love Jesus. – Mommy

I am thankful for parents who taught me the value of hard work. – Daddy

I am thankful for Godly parents. – Jonathan

I am thankful for parents that love me and punish me even if it hurts really bad. – Richard

I am thankful that my parents took me to church when I was growing up. – Mommy

I am thankful for an encouraging run group. – Daddy

I am thankful for a dad who makes good pancakes. – Jonathan

I am thankful for a dad who makes good food. – Richard

I am thankful for clothes to wear and food to eat. – Mommy

DISCUSSION: As you can see, thankfulness doesn’t have to be complicated or elaborate. Cultivating a thankful heart is about appreciating the small things as much as the big. What are you thankful for?

  1. I am thankful for faithful friends. I am thankful for being able to learn. I am thankful for the unseen gifts God gives us. May our eyes be open to see more of them. I am thankful for our home, for my job, and the health of us all. As my siblings and I are writing a group of letters for a book of memories growing up to make a book for my mom I am thankful how she guided our family even though she suffered tremendous heart ache. For new found Michigan friends; go Pack go!! 🙂

    • Great list! I am thankful that I have 5 teams I can root for each week. When the top one (Lions) do their usual, my second choice is the Bears. Well, since they Bears and Lions seem to be of like mind these days, I am on to my next two for playoff hopes (Packers & 49ers). And, if all else fails, I can hopefully find satisfaction in rooting for whatever team plays and hopefully beats the Cowboys. Yes, I am thankful for football too! Am sending you a photo via email Mark… you'll enjoy it!

  2. I am thankful for life, following a heart attack about 2 years ago I have been able to go deer hunting with my new hubby and his brothers for a second year. Much there to be thankful for including venison for the freezer and a safe hunt so far. And being a born and bred Packer fan there is NO other team Kari! though I did watch and root for the Lions on Thanksgiving day. I am thankful for a year of unexpected blessings and a new appreciation for the wonders of God's creation and His nearness to me wherever I may be. And lastly for friends who blog and share their stories and their lives and encourage me.

  3. Fun to read your family's comments! I am thankful for a God who loves me no matter what, a God who pursues me when He sees me wander, three kids who love God and are pursuing HIm with passion and sacrifice, one kid who doesn't but who still loves us and is under the care of a God who loves him even more than we do, my husband of almost thirty years, and a fun thanksgiving with our 16 year old, our two college kids and four of their Chinese friends who also came to stay with us, and for the Chinese feast they cooked for us last night!
