“Therefore, if you have been raised with Christ, keep seeking the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory.” (Colossians 3:1-4)

What does freedom mean for a Christian? It means sin no longer presents a barrier. It means culture no longer has to define us. It means we can be brave, focused, and confident because we fear no one and nothing on this earth.

Because we are “hidden with Christ,” we no longer bear the weight of sin. We can pursue righteousness, we can see beyond the struggles and concerns of this life, we can live the will of God, and we can impact others for his glory.

Freedom for a Christian means living focused on “the things that are above where Christ is” because we know that heavenly things are more real and enduring than the earthly things we can currently see and touch. We’re not tied to what culture says we should be or how we should act. Struggles and trials no longer hold us back because we know the reality that exists beyond them, that which is eternal.

A life focused on the realities of Heaven is a life confident in the wisdom of God. This allows us to do tremendous good on this earth because we are so intimately focused on the realities of heaven. We are heavenly minded.
