Nothing seems to work. Nothing seems to be getting through. Nothing seems to be happening. Nothing seems to be getting any better.

Nothing can be an absolute that discourages even the most seasoned Christians. It can lead you to the point of despair and a complete loss of hope.

Nothing can be an absolute that encourages, too. It can point your focus to hope beyond your feelings and experiences.

“O sovereign Lord, you have made heaven and earth by your great power. Nothing is too hard for you.” (Jeremiah 32:17)

“For nothing is impossible with God.” (Luke 1:37)

Whether or not nothing discourages or encourages, brings despair or hope, depends upon your focus. Will you look at God and the promises of his word? Or, will you let your feelings and the gaze of the world claim your focus?

“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love. Death can’t, and life can’t. The angels can’t, and the demons can’t. Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow, and even the power of hell can’t keep God’s love away. Whether we are high above the sky or in the deepest ocean, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)

Is your nothing empty and focused on that which isn’t or at least doesn’t appear to be happening? Or, is it focused on the limitlessness of God? Either way, your focus is shaping your reality.
