This post was inspired by Psalm 106 as well as by the story of God’s faithfulness toward his people throughout the Old Testament.

It’s the moment you compare all others to. The one that reminds you of exactly who God is in your life. The time when you were trapped and being pursued by the enemy with no way out, and then God did the impossible.

In that moment that reminded you that God has a purpose and a plan for your life (Jeremiah 29:11). It’s when he opened your expectations of him for the impossible paths ahead (Isaiah 43:18-19). Your Red Sea moment is why you know there’s something supernatural directing your life.

The moment seemed at first like a one-time event but was really what your whole life was always leading to and what everything afterward flowed out of. You probably resisted it because it took you out of your comfort zone and might have complained about the circumstances it created in your life because you felt such a lack of control as the unknown lay splayed before you. Your Red Sea moment feels at once the culmination of all you wanted and the confrontation of your fears.

Maybe it happened years ago, and you’ve been wandering around in dry places since because you forgot what God did and instead focused on your discomfort. You tried to make things happen through your own efforts instead of letting God’s perfect timing have its way. You became distracted and maybe even entitled. You took his blessings for granted and became far too connected to the culture around you. Instead of resisting and even destroying those influences, you scrolled and binged your way to interdependence. You became a shadow of what you knew you were supposed to become when you first had your Red Sea moment.

Even if you’ve become too defined by what your culture values, you still remember your Red Sea deliverance. You can still cry out to the deliverer and remember why he took you through it. You can praise him again for that supernatural path through the sea and thank him for loving you in spite of your neglect.

When you do, you’ll realize that he’s heard your cry. He always hears you cry. You’re never forgotten. He still has plans for you to have a future and a hope.
